Go Inside: Yountville’s North Block Hotel

Looking for a luxury, relaxing spot to stay during your next jaunt to Wine Country? Yountville flaunts a fabulous facelift at the North Block boutique hotel right off the main drag. Designer Erin Martin dazzles with this redesign of the former Hotel Luca.

The design of hotel takes cues from Martin’s go-to sophisticated-yet-chic style (just take a gander at this incredible St. Helena home she designed). Guests can unlock the key to comfort with cushy couches and ottomans crafted from steel drums, paired with a Michael Taylor-designed coffee table. In the lobby, settle down in front of the fire. Stargaze indoors with one peek of a wall hanging that feels like a modern-day astronomy lesson, without the midterm. The rope-suspended seashell chandelier adds drama to the space.

Gone are the Tuscan influences that defined the former Hotel Luca. Instead, there is sleek décor that strikes at the entryway with this shimmering wall of brass skeleton keys. As a reminder of the their stay, departing guests get to grab one on the way out. The North Block Hotel is also home to Redd Wood restaurant, also designed by Martin (see it here!), and known for their incredible selection of rustic pizzas and pastas.

In the reception area, a desk hangs like a modern day sister to an Old World ticket booth and is complemented by the soothing griffin-hued walls. The worn ceiling boards come from a 100-year-old barn in St. Helena.

Outside, eye-catching views roll on through the hotel and spill into the courtyard and pool with twinkling lanterns to light your way. It’s the perfect place to make waves or unwind after a tough day on the tasting trail.

Once guests are ready to hit the hay, they can head to their room, where comfortable luxury reigns. Wool carpets tickle your toes while heated floor panels in the bathroom fire up your feet. Plantation shutters and French doors let you close out the world for some R&R, or open up to the Wine Country way of life.
