Nestled into the rocky Big Sur coastline, the Post Ranch Inn is the definition of California style. A member of the Mr & Mrs Smith Boutique and Luxury Hotel Collection, Post Ranch is known for its dramatic views and focus on sustainable tourism.
Opened in 1992, the Post Ranch Inn was originally designed by architect Mickey Muennig—one of the region’s defining architects. Muennig’s vision was based in “organic architecture,” which strives to create harmony between surrounding nature and the structure.
The 39-room property seems to rise out of the surrounding cliffs, snaking around old-growth trees and cantilevering off of the mountains. Reclaimed redwood, stone, steel and glass compose the majority of the site, which features several clusters of buildings laid out along a wooded pathway. Czech-born architect Vladimir Frank added an additional ten rooms to the hotel in 2008.
The interiors were designed by Janet Gay Freed and offer rustic styling, a wood-burning fire and stunning views. The property is also home to an award-winning full-service spa and three cliff-top pools.
