San Diego County Fair for Photography and Digital Arts
Through July 4

At first, the huge San Diego County Fair seemed like a little too much to deal with – even the website itself is overwhelming. But after wading through the event listings, we found dozens of interesting (and bizarre) workshops, lectures, concerts and parties that are definitely worth checking out. The International Beer Festival (June 22-24), Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast (June 17) and the Food Truck Festival (July 2) all sound pretty fantastic, but what impressed us the most was the Fair’s selection of free photography workshops every weekend afternoon through July 4. In addition to classes about the history of the medium and alternative processes, learn from the pros about photographing the night sky, printing on canvas, and how to use the picture editing tool, Adobe Lightroom.

June 8-July 4, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar. Check the website for a full listing of events.

Taste of Summer
June 22

Our mouth’s are watering just thinking about eating Alchemy’s Pickled Susie’s Farm Strawberry Gazpacho, Kitchen 4140’s Local Short Rib on Crostini with Mango Salsa, and Casa de Luz’s Coconut Ceviche. The menu is up for A Taste of Summer, San Diego’s premier food event, and the selections look simply divine. Next Friday, hundreds of locals will enjoy unique small plates created by the county’s top chefs, in addition to being treated to local art, live music, organic wines, craft beers, and signature drinks.

June 22 from 7- to 1 p.m. at Liberty Station in Point Loma. Tickets are $60 per person. Proceeds from the event will benefit local organizations that promote international health, nutrition and sustainability.
