Tour Wine Country’s Newest Restaurant, Campo Fina, Opening Today
Author:Annette HanamiLooking for Wine Country’s newest hot spot? Ari and Dawnelise Rosen return to basics with their new eatery Campo Fina, which opens today, June 18.
The casual sister to the wildly popular Scopa Restaurant, Campo Fina sits right around the corner on Healdsburg Plaza. Defined by wood and masonry interiors, the space mirrors the timeless Italian flavors on their small plates menu.
Ari, who designed both restaurants, took advantage of the larger Campo Fina space, which features an outdoor dining area and 65 seats. To highlight the historic building, he opted to use wood and brick as the primary materials and then installed plenty of retro lighting to elevate the restaurant. A curio case featuring old whisky and gin bottles uncovered during renovation pays homage to the building’s infamous days as The Palace, a saloon that sat here from 1895 to 1920.
Local carpenter Ian Rizzo helped outfit the space with gorgeous pieces crafted from reclaimed woods. Walnut slab table tops, a bar made from old Douglas fir floor joists and doors from a Petaluma granary keep Campo Fina feeling rustic but modern.
Outside, the spacious courtyard features a concrete bar, wood-fired oven and bocce court. The owners’ winemaker friends helped inspire the design and pitched in to build the brick columns, custom benches and artistic vignettes. The focal point of the courtyard is a 12-foot long communal table made from reclaimed redwood with legs fabricated from leftover steel beam.
But the lovely design isn’t the only reason to head to this new spot. The farm-to-table cuisine is also a highlight.
The menu features mouth-watering pizza, crispy quail, grilled swordfish, a crudo of Yellowfin tuna, charred octopus, hearty meatballs, as well as lots of great vegetable dishes. The Mediterranean flavors are complemented by local and Italian wine selections.
At the heart of it, the Rosens want the new restaurant to be about family, friends and fun and Campo Fina embodies just that.
Campo Fina opens June 18 for dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m., with lunch service beginning in July. Reservations for parties of 8 or more only at eat@campo-fina.com. 330 Healdsburg Avenue, Healdsburg.
