Houses in Muir Beach range from tumble-down shacks to grand redwood palaces, with an allover vibe of the ’60s counter-culture movement that once permeated Marin County. That vibe still lingers along with clothing-optional bathing. Most of the modest timber structures with are arranged on a steep hillside over looking the crescent-shaped beach, with the surrounding lands owned by the Golden Gate National Park system, making a neighborhood that’s better for hiking and meditating than shopping.
The views aren’t completely unobstructed, and Muir Beach still has above-ground power lines. But we love the setting, and the two structures both look out over the ocean. The smaller structure houses the bedroom, while the larger is an open living/working space with  deck between the two. Crying out for a hot tub:

Most of the little town’s modest timber structures are arranged on a steep hillside over looking Pacific, with the surrounding lands owned by the Golden Gate National Park System, making a neighborhood that’s better for hiking and meditating than shopping. In fact, there is no retail anything in Muir Beach.
The views aren’t completely unobstructed, and Muir Beach still has above-ground power lines. But we love the setting, and both strucures look out over the ocean. Across the street from the house is a path down to a protected cove. If you’re hungry, the British-centric Pelican Inn is nearby and good for pub fare and great beers, plus about a 1/4 mile north on Highway 1 our favorite public picnic spot overlooks the ocean.
