7 Seriously Spectacular Ski Cabins

Author:

In California we’re blessed with tons of world-class snow destinations. Our ski/snowboard/snowshoe season is quickly approaching, and in honor we’ve put together a list of some of the all-time, most spectacular ski cabins and winter chalets from around the world. See you on the slopes!

1. Slopeside Chalets – Yellowstone, Big Sky, Montana

This impressive two story chalet located in the ultra-exclusive Yellowstone Club neighborhood is actually made up of two individual residences. Both the East and West buildings have 6 guest suites, tons of communal areas, a library and bar.
The property’s owner envisioned creating the ultimate ski cabin retreat where family friends could feel completely comfortable in their own space – we think the mission was accomplished!

2. Heinz Julen Loft – Zermatt, Switzerland
A big-city style loft in the heart of the Alps? Doesn’t get much better than this big city/gorgeous country combo. With floor-to-ceiling glass windows and a modern mixture of concrete, steel and wood, this stunning chalet is seriously deserving of the many rock stars that have reportedly partied here when it was a private home. Wish we knew who!
The 3,229 square-foot residence is now available as a vacation rental, so if you’re interested in dropping around $1,360 per person, per night (!), you can book here. http://www.mountainexposure.com/zermatt-chalets/chalet-heinz-julen-loft….

3. Chalet Cyanella – French Alps, Chamonix, France
We love how this open-concept chalet forgoes traditional mountain kitsch and instead opts for clean lines and minimal furnishings. The low profile of the furniture ensures none of the insane views are obstructed anywhere in the home.
Although the black matte kitchen is the epitome of minimal, we can’t say the same for high tech “Hydro Floor” swimming pool with LED lightstrips and a retractable floor.

4. Chalet Zermatt Peak – Zermatt, Swiss Alps
When Chalet Zermatt Peak was being built, construction included dynamiting sheer rock face to properly nestle this stunning building into the mountainside. And that’s just the beginning of this residence’s over-the-top luxury. To enter the home visitors are ushered through an underground tunnel and then up a private elevator, the home comes equipped with a full-time staff, and everything in the home (chairs, bed, etc.) was hand crafted specifically for the chalet.

5. Martis Camp – Tahoe, CA
North Lake Tahoe (the non-gambling side of the lake) is known for its old-school, classic family ski cabins. Martis Camp is anything but.
The exterior of this 3,250 square-foot residence was built using prefabricated modules, while the interior is filled with locally quarried stone and custom built-ins. Will love the juxtaposition of the modern materials like steel and stone on the inside with the warmth of the hardwood floors and rustic sliding barn doors.

6. BearTrap Residence – Yellowstone, Big Sky
Love a classic American sky cabin? This home’s for you. With a traditional exterior and exposed beams and heavy wooden doors inside, BearTrap feels cozy and familiar. But don’t worry, it’s not all boring. Unexpected styling and an eclectic combo of striking colors and exotic materials keeps this massive “cabin” interesting.
7. Pika House – Dunton Hot Springs, Colorado
With only a small footprint to work with, this residential cabin was built up instead of out. The five story home has floor-to-ceiling glass windows, giving the occupants an incredible view of nearby Dolores Mountain. We can’t even imagine how spectacular it must be to wake up to the 360 degree view from the rooftop penthouse.
