Tastemaker Pairs Homeowners with Interior Designers in New Online Community
Author:Lindsey ShookTastemaker is a new site whose mission is to make professional design attainable for everyone, sans the hefty price tag that is often attached to a consultation at a top design firm. The online community matches the design-deficient with professional interior designers – and they do it all online for way less than the cost of hiring a traditional interior designer. This means homeowners and renters can transform their houses into the living spaces of their carefully curated, Pinterest-inspired dreams while spending significantly less.
The creators of Tastemaker aim to solve your design dilemmas with a structured approach to online design consulting. The first step of the process is for consumers to submit photos of their current room, noting any special furniture items, cherished heirlooms, or prefered color schemes they would like to see incorporated into the final design. Customers are encouraged to include links to their Pinterest boards to give prospective designers an additional glimpse into their personal style.
Once the photos have been submitted, three professional interior designers (who have been carefully selected by the San Francisco-based team) present digital floor plans for the homeowner to review, each bringing his or her own fresh spin to the design concept that the customer is looking for. After the customers choose the design they think will best fit their space, a Design Box is sent via snail mail to their front door. The kit contains floor plans, color palettes, product details, and instructions for how to set up their new room.
In addition to the Design Box, one of the awesome aspects of Tastemaker is that homeowners can buy the furniture, paint, and accessories that the site recommends with just one click. CEO and co-founder Joe Fraiman notes that the process is like “having your own design team with you every step of the way, making it possible for anyone to create their dream home at a fraction of the cost.”

A fraction of the cost is right. Tastemaker boasts that hiring an interior designer through them will be 80% less than the cost of a traditional design service. Now that’s a remodel that fits the bill!
