Barbie Gets an Upgrade: The 2013 Designer Dollhouse Showcase
Author:Lindsey ShookBarbie’s iconic Malibu Dreamhouse just got some competition. Los Angeles firm Richard Manion Architecture constructed ten modern dollhouses for twenty of Los Angeles’ biggest interior designers to deck out to their heart’s content—and by deck out, we mean deck out. The houses, which will be auctioned off April 17, have been furnished with scale-model versions of modern couches, chairs, tables, drawers, carved ceramic fireplaces, professional landscaping, and one with a miniature electric guitar and tiny records. Fashion designers even got in on the action, with names such as Monique Lhuillier and Missoni pitching in their signature looks. Bidding is expected to start at $20,000 for each house, the proceeds of which will go to the UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute, part of Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA.
