Design Daily: New Ceramic Designs From Oakland’s Sara Paloma
Author:Sarah Virginia WhiteWe’ve been fans of Emeryville ceramicist Sara Paloma for a long time (ever since we first wrote about her elegant vessels back in 2007). She creates deceptively simple, sinuous shapes that look equally at home in rustic or minimalist aesthetics.
You can spot Paloma’s work in showrooms and homes throughout the Bay Area, but her pottery has also graced the pages of catalogs for Design Within Reach and Restoration Hardware. I frequently check her Etsy store, where she posts new designs available for custom order (and where I discovered an obsession with her apian-inspired Hive vases, which are glazed in a beautiful straw palette). Most recently, she’s a featured artisan for Restoration Hardware’s new Objects of Curiosity line, which features the work of artists and collections of antiquarians.
Check out Paloma’s pieces, below, which draw inspiration from everything from an electrical transformers to oil cans. Prices begin at $39 for her small stoneware bowls.
