Open House Report: Not Your Great-Grandmother’s Edwardian in Presidio Heights, $7.495M
Author:Philip FerratoWhere: 3481 Washington Street, Presidio Heights
When: Sunday, May 19 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
What: For a neighborhood of spectacularly large homes, this c.1906, 3-bed, 4.5-bath house is narrow and hemmed in on a tight lot. Inside, it’s another story altogether. The owner replaced much of the original wood structure with steel, opening up the spaces for flexible, modern living. To bring in more light, wall-sized scrims of acid-etched glass and steel were installed in what had once been a air shaft. Below, the entry hall is softly illuminated even on a dark day:
The living room retains its c.1906 proportions:
The dining room and kitchen have been opened up to the garden:
On the 2nd floor the former master bedroom has become the family room:
On the same floor there are also two kids (or guest) rooms, a bath and a laundry room. Planning ahead, the family room is designed to be closed off as another master suite with this spectacular bath– we love a “wet room”:
The attic is now a full-floor master suite with an office, a dressing room and another sybaritic bath, plus this glass-enclosed deck looking out over the Presidio to the Marin Headlands and the Golden Gate Bridge.
More: In addition to completely new systems throughout, there’s a ground level mancave/media room with a bar and wine cellar. Check out the Teed-Haze website for more images, or watch Butch Haze enthuse about his listing in the video below.
