While the brick and mortar SF MoMA is under renovation, you can still enjoy an ongoing selection of art events stationed around the city. Third Thursdays in Yerba Buena encourage you to “get your culture on” and enjoy design installations, contemporary art books, and browse children’s toys, posters, and innovative SF MoMA products. Enjoy these creative sights and inquire about getting a wrist band at participating galleries for an all-night happy hour at select bars and restaurants! Every third Thursday, 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. SF MoMA MuseumStore, 51 Yerba Buena Lane, San Francisco.

TechShop San Francisco is ringing in the new year with a whole new list of classes where you can learn, practice, and perfect hands-on skills like soldering, welding, sewing, and silkscreen and 3D printing. New to the Berkeley Art Center is a two-part exhibit called “Array”, highlighting works by over 100 artists, hand-picked by fellow artist and curator Weston Teruya. “Array” will run until January 5, followed by another exhibition called “Feature”, running January 16 through March 1. Plan a whole day excursion and grab a meal or go shopping in between browsing the unique works. Gallery admission is free of charge; suggested donations are as follows: $5 family, $3 individual, $2 limited income. Open Wednesday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. 1275 Walnut Street, Berkeley.

You’re invited to check out British artist David Hockney’s mixed-media works at the de Young Museum. More than 300 oil paintings, watercolors, and charcoals of landscapes, portraits, and still lifes will be on display, the first comprehensive collection of his work since 2002. “David Hockney: A Bigger Exhibition” features works that depict relationships with friends and families, as well as artistic representations of seasonal transitions. Runs until January 20. Open Tuesdays through Sundays, 9:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Adults: $10, seniors: $7, youths: 13-17, college students: $6, children 12 and under: free, member: free; first Tuesday of the month: free. 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, San Francisco (in Golden Gate Park).
