Author:Lindsey ShookExperience art and design from the top creators around the country at the FOG Design + Art Fair. Presented in collaboration with SFMOMA (now putting on mobile events while their main site is under renovation), the three-day fair celebrates the last 100 years of modernism. Attendees can listen to panel discussions from the SFMOMA’S Modern Art Council over breakfast, check out how computers manipulate a portable spray paint device, sit in on a talk with London-based designer and architect Ron Arad, and more artistic goodness! Tickets are $15 online and $20 at the door. Preview events: January 15 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. and January 16 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.; Open to the public: January 17–18, 11 a.m.–7 p.m.; January 19, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Fort Mason Center Pavilion, Marina and Buchanan Street, San Francisco.

For a unique glimpse at the world around us, check out Design Book Art 2, a book gallery that speaks to our “built” or human-made environment from UC Berkeley’s Environmental Design Library. Spring 2011 saw the first installation of this exhibit, and we’re jazzed that UCB is bringing it back this winter. Look forward to themes that include the variety of forms, techniques, materials, and ideas that address the different nuances of books and what they consist of. Runs January 16 – May 19. Opening reception January 31 from 5 – 7 p.m. Volkmann Reading Room, Environmental Design Library (210 Wurster Hall, Berkeley). See schedule of library hours.
