This Weekend: Tour Modern Napa Valley Homes and Gardens at Kitchens in the VineyardsAuthor:Annette Hanami
Explore five stunning Napa Valley homes and gardens that exemplify Wine Country living during Kitchens in the Vineyards ($65) this Saturday April 26 between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
With a focus on entertaining spaces, each home will be hosted by local lifestyle and food authors, and styled with inspiring spring floral arrangements and table settings. Tasty bites from local restaurants will also be served.
For those truly interested in the modern design process or contemplating creating their own Wine Country getaway, attend the Meet+Greet+Sip after the public tour from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to chat with the owners, designers and architects of the Contemporary Prefab and Scandinavian Sanctuary homes. VIP Pass costs $100 pp including the all-day home tour, glass of wine and greater access inside the properties. All proceeds benefit Music in the Vineyards chamber music festival celebrating its 20th anniversary this August 1-24 in the Napa Valley.
Here’s what you have to look forward to:
An Integrated Green Home
The Contemporary Prefab home designed and built by Stillwater Dwellings makes a sleek statement with its butterfly roofline and floating steel canopy. Installed 95% complete, the energy-efficient home uses natural light and an open floor plan to create an expansive feel. Landscape architect Josh Chandler extends the footprint further by integrating several outdoor entertaining spaces in the design, a bocce court and extensive fruit and vegetable gardens for sustaining living. A remodeled barn with upstairs guest quarters adds additional but private living space. Built for a smartphone generation, all lighting, security and media are controlled by the owner’s cellphone.
Built in 2012, this modern farmhouse designed by architect Daniel Hale and interior designer Patricia Adrian-Hanson unifies the indoors with outdoors with themes of light, air and organic materials. Reclaimed redwood from the former lodge was bleached and repurposed as stylish kitchen cabinets and pocket doors.
The clean and minimalist design is softened by natural materials used in the décor such as linen, jute rope and fur. Follow the light outdoors to sweeping views and additional living space of lounging and dining areas, kitchen and pool, designed by Nancy Roche.
City Meets Country
San Francisco designer Jay Jeffers combines city sophistication with country warmth in his rustic modern Saint Helena home styled with reclaimed wood walls and a blackened oyster shell fireplace surround. Take the ideas home with his new, just published book “Jay Jeffers: Collected Cool” available for sale during the tour.
In addition to these modern designs, Kitchens in the Vineyards showcases an extensively remodeled 1920s Arts & Crafts home and a Tuscan farmhouse created by a team of 15 artisans, complete with formal gardens. Purchase tickets online or by phone 707-258-5559 through April 25 for pick-up at the Napa Valley Welcome Center at 600 Main Street in Downtown Napa, open at 9 a.m. Guests can also purchase tickets same-day at the Welcome Center for $70 pp or $110 for the VIP Pass.
