The Agenda: The Goodland, Shift Art+Design Show, and Holiday Wreath Making

The Goodland Hotel

Put your family up for the holidays. Kimpton Hotels’ new 158-room property in this Santa Barbara-adjacent locale has all the bohemian trappings of a proper SoCal surf town. Designed by LA firm Studio Collective, the interiors mix beaded macramé wall hangings and vibrant Mexican tiles with Mission-style architecture (think dark wood ceiling beams and hand-troweled white plaster walls). Deals can be had through December — save up to 20 percent on room rates and $30 off at the spa. And did we mention the complimentary happy hour with spiked agua frescas?

When: Through December

Where: The Goodland, 5650 Calle Real, Goleta

Remodelista Holiday Market

Shop goods from the likes of Erica Tanov, SHED, In Fiore, and Maria Schoettler at Remodelista’s annual market event. It’s free and open to the public, but if you RSVP, you’ll be entered to win a Heath Ceramics bud vase set, $500 gift certificate to Big Daddy’s, a $500 gift certificate to Terrain, and a signed copy of Remodelista: A Manual For The Considered Home. Del Popolo will fire up the pizza oven and Thistle will bring cold-pressed juices for refreshment. Looking to spread the holiday cheer? Sign up for Terrain’s workshop ($25), where you’ll learn techniques inspired by the Japanese bonsai tradition of kokedama and walk away with a string garden ornament for your tree.

When: 10am-5pm, Saturday 12/13

Where: Heath Ceramics, 2900 18th Street, San Francisco

Holiday Wreath Making

Good Eggs LA is hosting Lori Gresty of Handmade Floral Designs for a festive wreath making session. Flowers, sourced locally from SoCal and the Central CA coast, and tools will be provided. Gresty will share her techniques and you’ll walk out of the class with an expert-looking wreath that will no doubt impress all your holiday visitors.

Amanda Hughen, SFMOMA Open Space Project, 2012

In a collaboration between Heather Marx Art Advisory and The NWBLK, “Shift” is a group show that explores what happens when art comes together in a context of high design. The show highlights artists whose work uses material, color, light, form, and space and fosters conversations about fine art to applied art in The NWBLK’s stunning design showroom. Local artists include Michael Arcega, Amanda Hughen, William Swanson, and Matt Gil. This week is your last chance to experience the thought-provoking exhibit.

When: Through Monday 12/15, by appointment only
