The Agenda: Palm Springs Modernism Week And Fashion’s Danger at MOCA
Author:Lindsey ShookDesign
This stylish desert oasis comes to life for the event of the year. The 11-day Palm Springs Modernism Week—an annual showcase of mid-century design, architecture, art, and culture—celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibit of 80-plus of the most prestigious dealers from across the US and Europe showcasing a premiere collection of furnishings, fine art, and decorative objects from the 20th century. The festival is chockablock full of events, from screenings of design films like Neutra In The Desert and The Nature Of Modernism to celebrity and architect home tours (the self-guided Signature Home Tour is already sold-out, but tickets are still available to get a look at legendary architect E. Stewart Williams’ home, which is rarely on view to the public). Modernism Week is a must for every design enthusiast.

“When Fashion Shows The Danger, Fashion Is The Danger”
Parisian fashion designer Bernhard Willhelm and longtime collaborator Jutta Kraus left their atelier in France behind to set up a site-specific outpost in LA. For this project, MOCA’s Pacific Design Center serves as the home for an exhibit of video, photography, ephemera, and objects with a fashion sensibility. Think of it as Willhelm’s personal meditation on the future of retail, the uniformity of today’s fast fashion, and a prediction of fashion in the 22nd century.
