Author:Philip FerratoP.S. Arts provides comprehensive exposure and education in dance, visual arts, theater, and music to over 20,000 students a week during the regular school day in Southern California. To help support this amazing accomplishment, manufacturer Marc Phillips and Paddle8 teamed up to present a collection of 10 artist-designed rugs, all handmade from wool and silk in Nepal. We’ve featured four below, the online auction is ongoing and ends tomorrow at 3:00pm PST.
With a strong jolt of color and a bit of attitude, Lot 2 (detail at top) Tanya Nolan’s Don’t Touch My Rug (98 x 109 inches) currently has 10 bids and is at $1,500.
Lot 9: Poet/painter/performance artist Cole Sternberg’s One Day (144×108 inches) gives us an evocative tangle automatic writing floating out of a deep blue ground. With 9 bids, it’s currently at $2,600.
One of Los Angeles’ most prolific and respected graffiti artists, RETNA (aka Marquis Lewis) has two rugs in the sale with a calligraphic sense that’s both ancient and modern. Lot 6, Resurrect Multi (96×124 inches, below) has 1 bid and is currently at $5,000. Meanwhile, Lot 4, in a different colorway (bottom) has 5 bids and is currently at $7,000.
