Reinvention = House at Dwell on Design
Associate Director of AIA Los Angeles, Carlo Caccavale will moderate a discussion about the revamp from ordinary home to exceptional oasis. Part of this year’s Dwell On Design conference, Michael Rachlin, Melinda Ritz (a former Hollywood set decorator who designed Ellen DeGeneres’ interiors), and leading contemporary architect Russell Shubin will walk visitors through the stunning transformation, room by room.

SF Design Week
For the first time ever, Westedge will take its position as the hub for AIGA’s SF Design Week. A weeklong extravaganza for design aficionados, the fair will host a plethora of events all across the Bay, but we’ve got our eyes on the House Industries series at Heath Ceramics. Kick off the monthlong House Object Shop at Heath and then take your spot for one of two lettering and screen printing workshops where you can learn the offbeat process and philosophy behind House Industries.

Multidisciplinary artist and world-class designer Arik Levy will be the focus of the latest solo show at LA’s Please Do Not Enter boutique-gallery. Gear yourself up for a firsthand look at some of the designer’s most iconic pieces.

Revamp
The Waldorf Astoria resort in the heart of the desert just underwent a much-needed multimillion dollar overhaul. Once a playground for Hollywood royalty (director Frank Capra penned the screenplay for It’s a Wonderful Life here), LA design firm Smith Firestone Associates reimagined the 45-acre Spanish-style oasis framed by bougainvillea and tangerine trees boasts updated pool areas and patios with fireplaces, plus suites and casitas done up in Palm Springs-glam touches of persimmon and chocolate, including tailored headboards with nailhead trim, geometric-printed area rugs, and desert cactus-bloom prints. Talk
Thomas Jayne: 25 Years, 25 Interiors
To celebrate this milestone anniversary of renowned New York design studio Thomas Jayne, the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art is hosting a talk in which the designer will highlight his favorite interiors created between 1990 and 2015. Focusing on the core ideas that have informed his work over the years, Jayne will showcase varied interiors—from family-oriented households to formal historic homes—discussing how objects, both antique and modern, can make comfortable yet beautiful environments.
