When it comes to selling a home, how it’s decorated can mean the difference between getting over your asking price and having to drop your bottom line. So when stars like Beyoncé, Halle Berry, and Scarlett Johansson were getting ready to list, they called on professional home stager Meridith Baer to help them get their homes in picture-perfect condition. In an interview with Nightline, Baer spills her secrets to getting the most out of your existing space to attract potential buyers to pay top dollar. “I don’t think I’ve ever met a home I couldn’t make prettier,” the designer says in the interview. With a fee that can reach to upwards of $200,000, Baer’s services don’t come cheap but when the listings end up selling for 20% more than they would without her input, the cost is worth payoff. So what are the designer’s most impactful staging moves?
- Bring in the largest sofa your space can handle—it will make the room feel larger.
- Add mirrors across from any outdoor views to double the natural beauty.
- Keep the overall space neutral but add in color through accessories.
- Hang curtains as close to the ceiling as possible to emphasize height.
