Arkitektura Assembly

Join the Bay Area’s greatest thinkers for a lively discussion themed, “see for yourself,” inspired by Rob Forbes’ new book of the same name. The founder of Design Within Reach and Public Bikes, Forbes will lead a conversation with IDEO’s David Kelley, designer and architect Johanna Grawunder, and cofounder of design firm Volume Inc. Eric Heiman. The four will engage in a chat about how the way we see affects everyday design.

Exhibit

“Space Oddity”

Four photographers dive head first into the world of outer space. Each artist’s unique approach has viewers contemplating our place in the world through the lens of space travel. John Chakeres creates vivid reflections on his time at Johnson and Kennedy Space Centers while Charles Grogg explores miniature universes in a small, but impactful show.

When: 11am-12pm, Friday, 5/29

Where: Wall Space Gallery, 116 East Yanonali Street, Santa Barbara

Exhibit

“Someday is Now: The Art of Corita Kent”

The first full-scale survey of this design icon’s oeuvre, this exhibit spans Kent’s 30-year career. One of the most popular graphic artists of the 1960s and 1970s, Kent made a name for herself as a designer, teacher, feminist, and anti-war activist. See some of her most iconic posters, murals, and signature serigraphs, including never-before-seen photos of the artist herself. Consider Kent the intellectual counterpoint to Andy Warhol’s world of Pop Art.

When: Sunday, 6/14–Sunday, 11/1

Where: Pasadena Museum of California Art, 490 East Union Street, Pasadena
