The First Annual Designer Mix-Off

On Tuesday, September 8, 2015, California Home+Design in partnership with Caesarstone, hosted the first annual Designer Mix-Off competition held at San Francisco’s historic Palace Hotel. This unique competition gave each designer the chance to show their creative abilities beyond interior design and rise to the challenge of concocting a clever cocktail inspired by Caesarstone’s newest collection.

The newly rennovated GC Lounge, desinged by Indidesign, was the stunning backrop for the evening where guests sampled each cocktail, then voted on Instagram for their favorite. The comeptition was fierce as each designer put on a show while shaking up their innovative libation.

The panel of judges including; Million Dollar Listing San Francisco’s Justin Fichelson, Beatrice Girelli of Indidesign, Maggie Amir of Caesarstone and Erin Eggleston from Liquor.com, tallyed their votes along with the guests votes to select the winner. The winning cocktail was the Apline Mist made by Tineke Triggs of Artistic Design for Living (recipe below). The drink will be on the menu at the Palace Hotel’s GC Lounge for the next month! A special thanks to Anchor Distilling for providing the delicious spirits, the designers for their time and passion, Caesarstone for the inspiration and the Palace Hotel for a lovely night!

The Winning recipe, THE ALPINE MIST:

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 oz of Amaras Mezcal Espadin
  • 2 oz of Reed’s Premium Ginger Beer
  • 1tsp of Seedless Blackberry Jam
  • 1 Lime, Juiced
  • 12 Mint Leaves, Muddled
  • Sugar (for rim)
  • Dry Ice 

DIRECTIONS

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.  Add all ingredients except the garnish and shake well. Stain into a very chilled martini glass (martini glass should have a sugar rim on half of the glass) and top with a splash of ginger beer. Garnish with a Mint leaf and orange peel.  Right before serving drop in a chip of dry ice for the mist  – very important!
