Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour
This is your chance to see how the Silicon Valley half lives. Peer inside the residences of five Bay Area families, chat up the homeowners about living in the tech capital of the world, and talk to their architects about each home’s unique design. From two historic Eichlers to a GreenPoint-rated sustainable home nestled among soaring redwoods to a grid-neutral, zero electric bill home with a living roof in the sleepy town of Saratoga, this self-guided home tour is a design-minded voyeur’s dream.
When: 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sat. 5/14
Where: Residences in Saratoga, Palo Alto, and Mountain View; San Francisco Bay Area
Opening
Culver City is home to a brand-new shopping destination, something akin to a modern version of the Brentwood Country Mart. The airy complex in Hayden Tract is home to high-end retail and posh eateries, including the first SoCal outpost for SF shoe designer Freda Salvador. The collaborative store concept with Janessa Leone is called The Edit and exudes a minimalist yet feminine vibe. Treat yourself to a pair of fancy new shoes and then celebrate with an acai bowl from São.
When: Ongoing
Where: 8850 Washington Blvd., Culver City

Hammer Spear at LCDQ’s Legends Event
Design Event
This year’s Legends event in La Cienega Design Quarter is a three-day, 30-activity affair chockablock with panel discussions, open houses, and highly anticipated keynote speakers including designer Nate Berkus and Luxe Interiors editor in chief Pamela Jaccarino. But the highlight of the annual event is the 60-plus display windows designed by industry stars from around the world. Think Nina Campbell, Robert Stilin, Jeffrey Alan Marks, and Marmol Radziner—who will bring a refined rustic elegance to the usual ornate stylings in the form of five custom walnut screens intricately carved at the firm’s El Segundo-based in-house wood shop.
When: Tues. 5/3–Thurs. 5/5
Where: La Cienega Design Quarter, Los Angeles
