Suzanne Tucker Debuts Elegantly Chic Outdoor Furniture CollectionAuthor:Caitlin Donovan
Award-winning San Francisco interior designer, Suzanne Tucker, debuts her first outdoor funiture collection for Michael Taylor Designs. The Riviera Collection pays homage to the chic yet casual lifestyle of Santa Barbara, which not only happens to be Tucker’s hometown, but is often referred to by locals as “the Riviera of the West.” Tucker, widely regarded as Taylor’s protégée and who credits her time with him as “transformative,” has interpreted Taylor’s expertise of scale, proportion and clean lines into a timeless and elegant outdoor collection.
“Michael was the master at bringing the outdoors in and created beautiful outdoor spaces for his clients,” Tucker explains. “I, too, have always taken a holisitic approach to the design of both indoor and outdoor spaces; they are inextricably linked and one should flow to the other very naturally.” Comprised of a unique combination of teak (available in natural or oiled finish), the Riviera Collection also utilizes a handwoven, easy-care resin wicker, which is dyed to mimic the random colorations of real wicker. The seating pieces have an aluminum frame that is powder coated to offer protection and withstand various weather conditions.
“Outdoor spaces are another ‘room’ of your house, and its furnishings should be just as carefully selected,” Tucker says. “I set out to design a collection that is not only of outstanding quality in materials, craftsmanship and comfort, but also with an aesthetic that is suitable for a wide variety of design styles.” Current pieces in the collection include a lounge chair, ottoman, sofa (two and three seater), chaise and dining chair (side and arm), in addition to a coffee and side table featuring a solid teak top fashioned in a unique, open-weave pattern.
The Riviera Collection is currently available at all Michael Taylor showrooms.
