The award-winning Nix, who serves as principal and head of KNA Design, has spent over 20 years leaving his luxurious imprint on 5-star hotels and hopitality collections including furnishings, lighting designs and his own intricate fabrics. Here, Nix shares his favorite furniture and accessories to help you elevate your warm weather gatherings to an elegant next level. 

“When hosting a summer soirée, an outdoor cocktail party is a must. I like to introduce colorful accessories into the mix. Ditching the dark and neutral for pops of color is a great way to stay true to the summer spirit. Swap your typical pillows for a light, summery look. To avoid being too bright or loud, you can opt for a soft pantone which is conveniently trending this season. I personally love different shades of blue for an airy, nautical touch.” 

 

“An outdoor rug is also great since the rug will occupy a large space. A patterned rug that blends well with the overall look is a great option when chosen correctly.”

 

“Choosing accessories that resonate with summer while staying true to your color scheme is crucial. Fresh flowers, lanterns and potted plants highlight the beauty of being outdoors while adding a necessary charm to the ambiance.”

 

“Last but not least, a cold cocktail to balance out the warm summer sun is the perfect addition to a summer soirée. A fruity martini or Lemon Drop are my go-tos. I also like to add mint to fresh sparkling water to give that added touch of flavor to a simple beverage, which of course should be paired with chic glassware.”
