Peek Inside VICE CEO Shane Smith’s $23 Million Estate

Author:

Shane Smith, known for being an award-winning journalist, entrpreneur, and CEO of VICE Media, is now also recognized as the proud owner of a $23 million Santa Monica mansion. As detailed in the September 2016 issue of the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Smith’s Villa Ruchello is a 1930s Spanish Colonial masterpiece that required some serious renovations from the plumbing to the electricty to the roof, but Smith purchased the property without ever even setting foot on it.

The mansion is replete with classic Hollywood details, thanks much in part to Smith’s wife, Tamyka, who undertook most of the restoration. The master bathroom features mosaic floors and tiled outdoor walkway, while the main staircase features risers of imported Moroccan ceramic tile and white oak treads overlooking an antique Sebastien Erard grand piano from the 1880s.

And of course, the home of a VICE executive wouldn’t be complete without a dedicated space for life’s little luxuries – a wooden bookcase opens to reveal one of Smith’s favorite spots, a speakeasy bar, which he refers to as “the drinking room.”
