It’s no secret that California design influences many across the globe. This year Bay Area designer Cynthia Spence transported her elegant California style to the annual Holiday House in New York. Inspired by the theme ‘Blue Monday’, the space is designed as an artful escape, intended to inspire through art, organic textures and jewel-like lighting. We asked the designer to share insights on the design direction of the project and a few of the fabulous products she placed.

What does this showcase mean to you and your work?
“I chose to participate in Holiday House because it gave me the opportunity to meet the greater New York design community as well as play on a different, large stage. Each showcase locale always provides a unique experience that further informs my work.”

How do you feel you represented California in this space?
“As a native Northern Californian (although people assume I am from NY), it is difficult for me to NOT stay true to myself. The core elements to which I am consistently drawn and play primary roles in the composition of this space– organic, textural, artful, elevated — align with much of what I consider to be a ‘California’ aesthetic.”
