Jean Larette concocts the “Cocktail Collection” for Donghia

The new Cocktail Collection by San Francisco designer Jean Larette invites you to drink in sophistication. Larette is no stranger to textile design, and her past inspirations have included international cities and coastal American towns. But when Donghia approached the designer about a new floor covering line, she came up with rugs whose names include “Flirtini,” “Cosmopolitan” and “Manhattan.”

This time, Larette’s inspiration comes from past elegance. “I referenced gold toned engraved jewelry boxes and cigarette cases from the Art Deco era found in Sotheby’s estate jewelry catalogs,” the designer says. “I feel the collection captures movement and energy with distinctive lines and sensuous curves.”

The look appealed to Donghia Regional Manager Natalie Mize. “I was looking for a rug collection that worked well with Donghia and I approached Jean,” she says. “Jean came to the meeting with five fabulous designs that were bold, innovative, beautiful, represented luxury and worked well with our showroom. We are so excited to have Larette Design Floorcoverings as a Donghia multi-line partner!”

Manhattan

Our favorites include the graphic lines of Mahattan, an elegant, Art Deco-inspired pattern that speaks of urban architecture.

Cosmopolitan

We also enjoy Cosmopolitan, a wool-and-silk floorcovering that reads as a woven textile.

Flirtini

It’s hard to resist the curving lines of the Flirtini, described by the company as “light, fun and [with] plenty of splashy movement.”

When asked about why she’s drawn to floor covering design, Larette says that, for her, it’s the starting point when creating a room. She says, “I have always felt the most successful rooms begin with the floor covering which serves to anchor the space, inform the color palette and set the tone for the furnishings.”
