2018 CH+D Awards: Best New Product
Author:Lindsey ShookDesigning seating with style is what San Francisco’s own beloved McGuire Furniture is known for across the globe. When conceiving their 2017 spring collection, the design team immersed themselves in the history of Hollywood to create pieces that evoke glamour and comfort.
The piece from the spring collection that defines the essence of the concept is the Haybine Sling lounge chair. “The chair was born from the desire to create a light and open-framed occasional chair,” says McGuire Furniture Chief Design Officer Nick DeSario. A perfect combination of masculine and feminine, the chair features a piece of leather that floats across a geometric blonde brass frame, conjuring up images of iconic Art Deco architecture.
While it appears dainty upon approach, you feel nothing but strength and comfort with when seated. “We wanted a seating design that doesn’t visually dominate the space, yet complements it—something airy and easy to pair with a wide range of differentiated spaces and purposefully curated environments,” says DeSario.
