Design Destination: Miami’s Urbanica Meridian Hotel Offers a Unique Boutique Experience
Author:Michelle KonstantinovskyThere are hotels and then there are destinations…guess which category Miami’s Urbanica Meridian falls into. The brand, which has three properties under its belt, wasn’t conceived by traditional hoteliers, which may explain its utterly unique appeal. Created by two entrepreneurs, Urbanica was built to offer comfort, high design, and a relatable style — all without a bank-busting price tag attached.
The Miami Beach location, known as The Meridian, is located in the upscale South of Fifth neighborhood is a boutique hotel exudes sophistication for global travelers seeking to swing it like a local. The intimate building holds 71 rooms that range from 180 to 360 square feet, and offers an intimate, memorable experience with interactive service, smooth style, and plenty of South Beach fun on a quainter scale. Guests are invited into open-layout lobby with a complimentary mojito as they approach the reception area adjacent to the café and communal work space. The property encourages a feeling of community, with public spaces planned as thoughtfully as the accommodations themselves.

With a focus on local craftsmanship and creativity, the Meridian Hotel features design elements drawn directly from the landscape of urban Miami. Centerpiece items include an expansive bar and individual coffee tables constructed from cedar beams. In the lobby, a reception desk steals the scene featuring a stack of varying vintage luggage artfully pieced together by the hotel’s general manager. On the wall leading to guestrooms, a mural by acclaimed street artist AholSniffsGlue offers a nod to the Wynwood Arts District and greets guests with Ahols’ iconic hypnotic eyelids in a greyscale palette. Local vendors like Panther Coffee and Zach Te Baker are featured within the hotel’s signature café, The Food Marchand.

Guests are also invited to enjoy a rooftop pool overlooking the streets of SoFi, and The Chill-out Room, a cool, climate-controlled space to kick back. The oversized cabana is encased in floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors and features a projection screen, beach house design and a setting for social activity or just sleeping the day away. Urbanica offers a unique cocktail experience as the Mini Bar, an uber cool bar curated by Miami Beach local Phllippe Falca that offers great drinks, small bites and decadent design.
