2018 Design Award for Bathroom Design: Regan Baker Design
Author:Lindsey ShookIf it weren’t for the HGTV reality show House Hunters, this bathroom might not exist. The program follows buyers choosing a new home, and when interior designer Regan Baker’s clients appeared on the show, they asked her to style one of the potential dwellings. But after the couple purchased the Mountain View home, the project got serious. “They decided to completely gut it,” Baker says.
The in real life project involved shifting space and marrying styles. “Their bedroom was way too large—too big to be cozy,” Baker says. “The master bath was too small, and had to be entered through closets.” By reconfiguring the floorplan, Baker was able to divvy up the space to make it more equitable. Now, the master bath is also roomy. “It allows you to move around comfortably,” she says.
The new aesthetic has rustic elements (reclaimed teak vanity and shelving) living alongside city-slicker features (live finish brass hardware and boldly colored graphic tile). This is one reality star with substance.
