Lighter, Brighter – The Updated SLS Hotel

Author:

In honor of its ten year anniversary, the renowned SLS Hotel on La Cienega in Beverly Hills, with its lobby by Philippe Stark and its restaurant, Bazaar by Jose Andres, is undergoing a slow renovation. First up on the agenda are the 234 guestrooms and 63 suites. Here is what they used to look like:

While continuing to the hotel’s twin dictums of whimsy and elegance, the refreshed spaces have been redesigned under a collaboration between Dakota Development, Muzeuo and Avenue Interior Design. Gone are the rich velvets, saturated colors, deep walls, preponderance of walnut and black leather that characterized the design dictums of a decade ago.

In its place, unveils a lighter, brighter palette, seen in the photos below:

The oversized mirrors, a hotel signature that channels its subtle Alice in Wonderland vibe, remain, but now they’re augmented by white oak, Carrara marble and pale, textured fabrics. The tongue-in-cheek and handmade touches are still there, but now they’re more hidden: inside the room’s oversized armoires, the hotel’s icon, a mischevious monkey, cavorts among antique perfume bottles; there are needlepoint pillows; and, a vintage-inspired map of the city, embedded on top of the media center, that suggest to visitors where to go; and, of course, there are the hotel’s signature busts.
