Without Equal – The La Peer Hotel

Author:

West Hollywood’s La Cienega Design Quarter has long been lacking a stunning hotel within a comfortable walking distance of its amazing boutiques, chic restaurants, and stunning showrooms. That has been remedied by the opening of La Peer Hotel.

The boutique Kimpton hotel, showcasing interior designer Gulla Jónsdóttir‘s impeccable work and Chef Casey Lane‘s equally elegant food and beverage offerings, reflects the neighborhood’s emphasis on design, art, and style. The intimate 105-room hotel features compelling indoor and outdoor public spaces, set off by art created by Jónsdóttir’s vast network of talented colleagues. Witness the back garden with its installation by RETNA in collaboration with fellow artist Guerin Swing, Khori Maki’s elevator design. Topping it all off? A 4,000-square-foot private rooftop deck. Handcrafted art pieces and custom designs are found throughout the hotel, contributing to the overall creative energy. (Jónsdóttir’s studio gallery, Atelier Gulla Jónsdóttir, on the hotel’s first floor, offers guests an opportunity to incorporate some of hotel’s artwork and furniture in the own homes). Open bathrooms with freestanding tubs and a palette of softs grays and beiges pull the sensual vibe through the guestrooms.

Jónsdóttir’s interiors, all curving, anthropomorphic shapes, plush sofas with wide, inviting arms, comfy pillows and sumptuous textures — leather cocoon walls, bronze columns, curved brass ceiling details and soaring light sources — in neutral grey-tinged tones, finds its gastronomical partners in Lane’s eaterie, Viale dei Romani. The Mediterranean cuisine, which freely mixes Greek, North African, Southern French and Italian influences is equally earthy and sexy. A chicken and clementine tagine, wood-roasted romanesco with ‘nduja, tagilatelle with rabbit and sweetbreads and taramasalata are among the more unexpected offerings on the mostly seafood-driven menu.
