Around The Bend: The new Bend Shop on Melrose

Discovering Bend founder Gaurav Nanda’s former career as an animator and automotive sculptor is not surprising. There’s a vibrancy about the brand’s signature wire furniture that gives them an anthropomorphic quality. The spirited pieces bring a sense of whimsy and playfulness to every space, easily slotting into whatever setting they’re placed, from traditional to modern, indoors and out.

From a simple chair, they’ve has branched out. There are now tables, stools, armchairs, animal heads and macrame wall hangings available in their signature powdercoasted iron form as well as a variety of upholstered pieces, from beds to benches. Here form and function go hand in hand.

Now, they’ve opened their first showroom, on a stretch of Melrose, east of LaBrea, that’s quickly become an enclave of new design shops.  The walls of the sprawling whitewashed store are splashed with bright shapes, creating colorful vignettes against which to showcase the designs in a variety of convivial groupings. Behind the showroom, curved doors lead to the workshop and photo studio.
