Tuck Yeah: Bar Garcia at Tuck Hotel

Author:

No pun intended but Bar Garcia, tucked into the bottom of 14 room Tuck Hotel, carved out of non-descript building, is a hidden gem in the midst of Downtown LA’s often frenetic bar and dining scene.

The intimate 70 seat space, fuses a cozy and romantic atomosphere with sleek industrial vibes: note the glass-enclosed wine room and smoky gray walls. The minimal decor is animated by a rotating gallery of Los Angeles artists that changes quarterly (the current exhibition highlights the work of Chadwick). Simple, yet dramatic, the invitingly slender room is as perfect for a raucous happy hour, fueled by their twists on cocktails favorites as well as their inventive concoctions, as it is for a romantic dinner.

Chef and owner Juan Pablo Torre performs the same magic with California cuisine, laying Spanish tapas-inspired accent over simple Italian, French, Middle Easter and Asian flavors and ingredients. Saffron croquettes, marinated olives, a lush charcuterie board and calamari a la plancha give way to black bucatini and a whole Spanish branzino are some of the menu’s must-haves, beautifully presented.
