Soho Warehouse Opens in DTLA

The eagerly anticipated Soho Warehouse finally flings open the doors in downtown Los Angeles to a beautiful space that proves that it was worth the wait

Carved out of a former warehouse dating back to 1916, the aptly named space is suffused with the social club’s welcoming, vintage-infused aesthetic. The largest Soho House in North America, the building wraps 48 bedrooms, an expansive 50 foot rooftop pool encircled by Soho-yellow umbrella, a gym, dubbed Soho Active, and three restaurants into its seven stories.

Downstairs, The Garden offers a Mediterranean-inspired menu. Head upstairs to the Rooftop Terrace and Bar for cocktails and a selection of club favorites from around the world, also available through the House Kitchen, including ham croquettes from the Barcelona branch and butter chicken with garlic naan from the Mumbai outpost and dine in an inviting, shaded oasis — a lush and verdant rarity in this uber-industrial part of town — amidst olive trees, winding jasmine and lounge chairs

Under the guidance of Candace Campos, U.S. design director for Soho House, two distinct but complementary design styles are woven throughout the building. Art deco elements from the building’s early history intertwine with furnishings, brick walls (still marked with graffiti tags) and exposed duct work, evoking the property’s time as a recording studio in the glittering 70s. Artwork from local artists, including a stairwell-based wallpaper installation by Genevieve Gaignard, an 18-by-6-foot mural by Paul Davies, and loading dock mural from Shepard Fairey. The rooftop lounge chairs are also wrapped in a custom print from DTLA-based artist and illustrator Ethan Lipsitz.

Not surprisingly, Soho Warehouse doesn’t stint on its overnight accommodations. Luxury abounds: Bedrooms boast rainfall showers, king-sized beds, full-sized Cowshed products in the bathrooms and an in-room shopping experience that puts an exclusive capsule collaboration between streetwear retailer SSENSE and DTLA-based designer RHUDE at guest’s fingertip; bedroom guests also receive a temporary membership to the club for the duration of their stay.

Soho Warehouse, 1000 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90021 213.205.1000. It opens to Founder members as of Monday, September 30th and to Every House members and their guests on Mon, Oct 14.
