Cass Calder Smith Architecture + Interiors Debut The Matheson Healdsburg

Author:

Healdsburg welcomed an ambitious new addition to its restaurant scene earlier this spring with the debut of The Matheson, an expansive, tri-level culinary destination featuring a craft cocktail bar, sushi bar, wine wall, private dining room, outdoor patio, mezzanine dining loft, and rooftop cocktail bar and garden lounge with Plaza view.

Owned and operated by Chef Dustin Valette and Craig Ramsey, The Matheson includes four parts: The Bar + Dining Room, The Mezzanine, The Private Dining Room/Terrace, and The Roof Deck. While each section has its own distinct designs, the overarching vision of designer Cass Calder Smith Architecture + Interiors is to pay homage to local artisans, craftspeople, winemakers, and farmers. San Francisco-based painter Jay Mercado created eight unique murals for The Matheson celebrating agricultural heroes of Sonoma County and local art photographer Andy Katz curated a series of images for the project.

Other distinctive local touches include handcrafted redwood tables by Andrew Somawang of Sebastopol, clamp pendant from Lindsay Adelman, drape arm pendant and hanging glass chandelier by Sklo, circular hanging sculptures by McEwen Lighting, and custom-made ceramics by Sara Paloma.

The restaurant itself is part of a massive expansion, renovation, and restoration of 104-108 Matheson Street, a partially vacant and underutilized historic commercial building in downtown Healdsburg on the Plaza. The mixed-use renovation includes two retail spaces, The Matheson restaurant, the roof deck level is bar and lounge Roof 106, and two residential condominiums.
