1 Hotel San Francisco Opens Its Doors on the EmbarcaderoAuthor:Michelle Konstantinovsky
Earlier this summer, San Francisco’s picturesque Embarcadero became home to one of the city’s newest design-forward destinations, 1 Hotel. The SF location marks the mission-driven luxury hospitality brand’s second California property and eco-friendly property is making a name for itself with its integration of sustainable design and architecture with comfort and service.
Developed in partnership with Pebblebrook Hotel Trust, 1 Hotel San Francisco’s 186 guest rooms, 14 suites and public spaces designed by Nicole Hollis, offer panoramic views of the Bay Area and the property provides easy access to the city’s best offerings.
In an homage to the local landscape, 1 Hotel San Francisco’s decor draws on an earth tone color palette, raw materials, and layered textures. Lumber salvaged from historic barns and industrial buildings comprises the 7,000 square-foot lobby floor and sustainably-sourced redwood salvaged from the original Bay Bridge adorns elevator landings and corridors. Native greenery, exposed brick, terracotta accents, and stones combine references of natural elements and urban ecology.
The property’s hand-loomed rugs and carpets are created from natural plant fibers and recyclable wool. In addition to salvaged driftwood artwork, other features, including the bar, latticework, and bar façade, are created from concrete, responsibly crafted by a local family-run business.
The property’s indoor-outdoor café and lounge, Terrene, draws on regional culinary inspiration and serves small plates rooted in local, fresh ingredients, many of which are grown on the rooftop chef’s garden (and a beehive provides on-site honey production). In addition to a comprehensive tequila and mezcal menu, Terrene offers an assortment of biodynamic wines from the Sonoma and Napa Valley regions and local craft beer and microbrews.
The hotel’s on-site facilities include a full-service Bamford wellness spa, 24-hour gym, and an Audi Electric Vehicle Experience that allows guests to test driving the Audie-tron, the Official Electric Vehicle of 1 Hotel San Francisco.
