2024 Kitchen Design Award: House of Honey

House of Honey is a female collective of interior designers,” says founder and creative director Tamara Kaye-Honey. “We create spaces that embody pure boundless joy, full of playful possibilities. We love bold, moody colors; rich, inviting textures; and we have an eclectic and electric style.” When hired by a New York transplant to infuse a new-build home with their signature style, they jumped at the chance to celebrate the client’s creative spirit. “Our client is a creative who sought our help to design a glamorously playful and energetic place for game night, dance parties and rejuvenation,” says Kaye-Honey. “This project was actually pretty dreamy. Industry changes in lead times and availability resulted in many opportunities to pivot and ultimately laid the groundwork for imaginative artist collaborations that resulted in stunning details, which really made this kitchen so incredibly beautiful. We are immensely grateful to the network of artisans and makers and their flexibility and dedication to our partnerships, which allowed us to deliver this delightful space without a hitch.”

The design palette for the kitchen was inspired by the Dolce Vita stone, which featured moments of muted pinks and greens. Burnished brass fixtures were installed to complement the brass-wrapped hood and toe kick and as a ribbon running under the island countertop. “The curved sides of the island itself were plastered and we repeated the stone on the face near the counter stools,” says Kaye-Honey. “We also painted the interior cabinets a vivid shade of coral as a sweet surprise hiding behind the creamy cabinet fronts. The hardware came last and was fashioned out of remnants from the rooftop fireplace inserts, each curved edge eased by hand.”

This celebration of color and creativity evokes the core mission of House of Honey: to create sophisticated, unapologetically chic spaces infused with a blend of sumptuous layers that are both cozy and unexpected. “The reveal was the best part,” she says. “We brought rosé and toasted to commemorate the joy of our collaboration with the owner. This project was a labor of love, and we were absolutely thrilled she adored her new home.”
