Studio MTN develops a warm and welcoming modern mountain retreat

“At Studio Mountain, our ethos revolves around reinterpreting traditional mountain design with a fresh perspective,” says Studio MTN founder Sierra Fox. “In high-altitude regions, natural materials are often used in a very heavy, rustic manner—we like to challenge that by introducing a lighter, more refined approach while still honoring the essence of mountain living.” She applied this philosophy when Fox’s sister Delaney Fox of Fox Estates, approached her with the opportunity to develop a new build in Sun Valley.

The 6,000-square-foot home was configured to take full advantage of Sun Valley’s breathtaking natural views. “The goal was to craft a home that feels effortlessly luxurious, functional, and timeless and wanted the interiors to feel bright, textural, and inviting—anchored in natural materials but with a fresh, refined execution,” she notes. “The floor plan prioritizes seamless indoor-outdoor living, allowing the home to feel connected to the landscape while maintaining a strong sense of privacy and warmth.”

Being the home is so new and expansive, Fox and her team focused on ways to add warmth in every room. “We integrating layered lighting, rich material contrasts, and thoughtful spatial planning,” she recalls. “Additionally, blending a high-performance home with handcrafted details required balancing precision and artistry—from the execution of tadelakt finishes to the integration of custom millwork.”

The heart of the home is the great room that seamlessly connects the kitchen, dining and living rooms together with the outdoors. The custom millwork, dramatic stone and and finishes throughout, create a cozy space where the potential homeowners friends and family to gather après-ski.

“We are incredibly proud of how this home turned out,” Fox proclaims. “Seeing our design vision come to life—from the first sketches to a fully realized, staged home—has been an incredibly fulfilling process. This was our first time fully staging one of our projects, which allowed us to ensure the interiors reflected the level of refinement and thoughtfulness that went into every design decision. The end result is a home that feels warm, sophisticated, and completely at ease in its surroundings.
