After living in several different cities around the globe for over 15 years, the father of a family of four, who was originally from L.A., was ready to return and build a forever home. After collecting a hodgepodge of furniture and finds along the way, they decided to leave it all behind and start from scratch, entrusting their new beginning to Shannon Wollack and Brittany Zwickl of Studio Lifestyle.

Wollack, who grew up with the patriarch of the family, reveled in the idea that she and her firm were tasked with selecting every single item. From all the finishes, to every piece of furniture, artwork and more, Studio Lifestyle creatively directed the entire home. “The process was amazing,” says Wollack. “They were the most lovely and super fun clients to work with, and they were willing to take direction and kept an open mind.”

The 10,000-square-foot, new construction home, which took almost three years to complete, sits on a combination of two lots in Fryman Canyon. Studio Lifestyle began the project with a completed set of plans and therefore were not able to change many of the architectural elements, but they did alter the window selection and subtle interior architectural details to complement the modern farmhouse exterior.

Inside, the couple’s sophisticated tastes drove their desire to have playful spaces doused with saturated bold color but that still felt luxurious and durable. “The client wanted to maintain a base of white but were really into color,” says Zwickl. “Originally they requested strong primary colors, but
we thought it would be best to create a timeless look that would grow with them, and therefore found a way to weave in moments of color and print that satisfied all.”

Studio Lifestyle began the introduction of subtle hues beginning in the living room, where a backdrop of Benjamin Moore Simply White sets the stage for touches of saturated burgundy in upholstered chairs from Orange Furniture and a rust-colored daybed from de Sede. Moving into the dining room, a set of moss green chairs from Minotti surround a table by Thomas Hayes Studio.

The bold choice of color continues in a guest room, where a cobalt blue tile by Clé dances up the walls behind a mirror from Kelly Wearstler, and in a bathroom that features an accent wall of geometric green-and- white-print tile from Popham Design.

From the kitchen cabinetry to a noteworthy brass- clad hood and all the millwork throughout, Studio Lifestyle worked with PSS Design Cult to design custom details. The team even commissioned an expansive work of art by Malcolm Hill to complement the custom hand-forged stairwell.

“Being able to deliver a project with this incredible level of detail that is still family-friendly was a dream,” says Wollack. From top to bottom, the client relied upon the firm to select every single aspect of the design, which in the end paid off. “We styled the entire home before the big reveal,” notes Zwickl. “Most times clients will pull things out they want to return; however, these clients wanted it all!”
