“Our approach is rooted in a process of storytelling that guides the project from start to finish,” says Ansley Majit, founding principal designer of L+P Interiors. “We incorporate the environment, the architecture and the lives and dreams, of the people who live within the home to bring their personal story to life through design.”

They leaned on this methodology when designing 2,500-square-foot, three-story Edwardian Home in the Inner Richmond of San Francisco for existing clients that are also considered friends. “To work with people who are already friends allowed us to get even deeper into this design philosophy,” she notes. “They were fantastic partners, willing to take risks, explore their thoughts on what makes their home ‘theirs,’ all while allowing for a tremendous amount of trust in both directions.”

The homeowners wanted a new primary bathroom—as the existing home only had one bathroom upstairs—and needed to expand the kitchen footprint in order to maximize space. Finishes and decor also needed an update while complimenting the Edwardian style. “As is common with homes of this era, the rooms were very small and compartmentalized,” she recalls. “We had to find a footprint for an entirely new bathroom, and there wasn’t a ton of storage.” The clients love to entertain so carving out more space was challenging but crucial.

Luckily they love color, so the newly expanded home is infused with soul and character. “From the wallpaper mural in the entry to the sweet tiled architectural detail in the girls’ bathroom—the whole home really turned out beautifully,” Majit proclaims.
