“I am the daughter of a carpenter and have had a passion for design ever since I could remember, I have been moving my own furniture around my bedroom at age seven and not stopping since,” says designer and founder of 22 Interiors, Lucie Ayres. “I am and have always been fascinated by colors of landscapes, the visual richness of so many cultures in our world, and the historical approaches to creating interiors.”

With a focus on infusing each project with the essence of her European heritage and California soul, the 22 Interiors team was enlisted through Houzz by a young couple who relocated from NYC to Los Angeles. “We immediately bonded over our love of the Hamptons and we agreed that this cold, modern frame of a house must be warmed up and we would use a Hamptons style contemporary beach house as inspiration,” says Ayres. “It was all about adding organic forms and warmth throughout.”

The 3,100-square-foot home modern home needed to be softened. “They recognized the home had a modern, hard edge with the stone tile floors, heavy black cabinetry in the kitchen and the bedrooms, and tall ceilings,” says Ayres. “We needed to create warmth everywhere.”

The team achieved this by incorporating elements like handmade vases, teak furniture, as well as nature-inspired tones that take the edge off while adding the idyllic California vibes. Soon after they started the project, the couple were expecting and they wife wanted to have fun in the nursery. “We are all in love with the nursery design where we went bold with ochre accents driven by the playful House of Hackney wallpaper and an Armadillo rug,” says Ayers. “It’s fun, unexpected and not your typical pastel-hued nursery.”

“The clients have always been in awe of how we were able to transform the space,” says Ayres. “They are obsessed with the level of comfort in every area—especially the dining room as they do typically love to entertain. Now that they have their son, they see the value of a beautiful, comfortable home done right.”
