Lavish Jewel Box By Kelly Wearstler, $4.5M

Author:

Tucked behind gates and high, manicured hedges in Beverly Grove, this looks like yet another sleek residential property. The street front gives nothing away, but hidden inside is a breathtaking interior by Kelly Wearstler.

The owners are actor (he’s in Martin Scorcese’s new film The Irishman) and comedian Sebastian Maniscalo and painter Lisa Gomez , a longtime collaborator with Wearstler and the force behind the renovation. Learn more about the project and the process in this video.

Throughout, wallpaper was trimmed into panels and tinted to imitate stone, but in a game of visual cat vs. mouse, the marble door surrounds are actual marble. For all its outscale spaces  and design references driven by a subtle, knowledgeable wit, this is fundamentally a comfortable family home.

What We Love: The unmistakable 20th Century Italian influences, both of Memphis designer Ettore Sottsass and the Milanese 1930s architect Piero Portaluppi, whose incredible Villa Necchi-Campigli was the setting for Luca Guadagnino’s film I Am Love, and perhaps more directly here, the look of Portaluppi’s Casa Corbellini-Wassermann.

Every square inch of the glamorous master suite was considered, including room for shoes and the most Milanese bathroom in Los Angeles.
