Open House Obsession: Sweet Modernist Treehouse in Montecito Heights, 800K

A 3-bed, 2-bath treehouse designed by John Lawrence Pugsley built in 1964– one of a number in the neighborhood designed by this prominent Mid-Century architect best known for his modernist houses in nearby Pasadena– at a time when houses were being cantilevered over canyons everywhere.

What We Love: The renovation by Dimster Architects that rearranged the luminous main floor space and added the slatted ceiling. LA-based Guatemalan graffiti artist Cache executed the stairwell mural.

Long decks line each level, looking out into the verdant canyon, and below the house, a deck and landscaping by landscape architect Elisa Reed.
