Vertical Chic In Venice, $3.75M
Author:Philip FerratoWhen it was time for LA-based carpet designer Erik Lindstrom to build a house, he chose architects Erla Dogg Ingjaldsdottir and Tryggvi Thorsteinsson of Minarc to create it with him. Tucked neatly into a 40 x 50-foot lot in Venice, it’s a stack of elegantly minimal spaces massed in a white block above a hidden garage, culminating in a roof terrace– an outdoor living room instead of a backyard– with views all the way to the Hollywood sign.
A flight of stairs goes directly from street level to the middle floor, which holds the primary bedroom suite and an office. Spiral stairs to the left access the lower level 2-car garage, a wine room, and a second bedroom suite.
What We Love: Minarc’s unique ability to make beautifully detailed, serene spaces with great warmth and personality along with holistic, sustainable construction values. CH+D’s Abigail Stone took a look at the house a while back, and you can see how it’s evolved from Minarc’s original project photography. Interior design by Lisa Strong.
Location, Location, Location: The proximity to the beach, bike path, Venice canals and Abbot Kinney restaurants and shopping make it a very walkable neighborhood.
Below (and at top) the upper level entertaining spaces, a elegantly composed space with a palette ranging from whites to dark greys and a variety of textures.
The mid-level primary bedroom suite, below, and the intimate office. Much of the furnishings throughout are available for sale in an effort to make this as turnkey a transaction as possible.
On the lower level, the second suite opens to a narrow garden lined with bamboo, making it a wonderfully private retreat. There’s also the 400-bottle capacity wine room– and while much of the furniture is available, the new owner will have to supply their own wine collection.
