A Designer’s Own Home In Kensington, $2.86M

Author:

Surrounded by coastal oaks and set above a secret garden, this lovely late-1930s classic is the home of Sean Gaston and Jim Jewell, principals of Bee Renovated, the successful East Bay design/build firm that specializes in renovating Mid-Century homes. Having found another home by the same builder in the same style (an Art Deco inflected version of Mission Adobe) they’ve put what had been their “forever” home on the market. The twenty-two years of the team’s careful conservation, renovation and stewardship are obvious.

What We Love: Constructed of hybrid adobe brick– actually a type of structural, fired terracotta that mimics the look of traditional adobe without any of the drawbacks– and painted a traditional white inside and out, the house retains its original steel windows and many interior details, like the wide tongue and groove paneling in the foyer and beamed ceilings.

More: Go to the outstanding dedicated site for additional details and images, including a video, floor plans and an interactive 3D tour. A classic East Bay property represented by veteran realtor Ruth Frasetto at Compass, there’s a public open house on Sunday, July 16 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
