Living The Mid-Century Life in South Pasadena, $2.48M

Author:

One of the most appealing things about Pasadena and its surrounding communities is the wealth of historic residential architecture, especially works by the pioneers of Mid-century design. Both new to the market and in exceptional original condition this exquisite c.1968 home in South Pasadena by architect Miller Fong is a multi-level collection of spaces arranged around a courtyard and a centrally located kitchen—both an innovative and vintage classic California solution to indoor-outdoor living, tucked behind a very private street facade.

Miller Fong’s parents emigrated from China to L.A. in the 1930s, and they would go on to found their furniture company Fong Brothers in the 1950s. Best known for its collections combining wicker, reed, leather and iron, Fong Brothers was very much a family affair; one of Miller Fong’s designs for the firm has become an icon of Mid-Century design, his c1968 Lotus Chair. Miller Fong graduated from USC in 1964, began his architecture practice soon after, and taught at USC for decades.
