Out on the Town: Blu Dot Welcomes Chad Oppenheim

Author:

World-renowned architect Chad Oppenheim, founder and principal of Oppenheim Architecture, kicked off his West Coast book tour at Blu Dot in San Francisco with an engaging talk about his design philosophy and his new book, Sprit of Place (Tra Publishing).

Oppenheim shared the stories behind his breathtaking work from around the globe over lunch with Bay Area design and architecture enthusiasts. He discussed the stunning design film director and producer Michael Bay’s Miami home as well as a luxurious tropical home on a dune in the Bahamas whose central living space is an open breezeway, allowing visual and pedestrian connections across the site. He also shared how he created the brilliantly imagined resort in the Wadi Rum Desert Resort in Jordan, where residences, rooms and hotel amenities built into the cliffs, and inserted into the natural faults and fissures of the land, synchronizing with the topography of this protected desert wilderness.

The event was a success with Blu Dot’s San Francisco store being an ideal venue. Their clean, minimalist showroom was the perfect complement to Oppenheim’s austere design aesthetic.
