Erik Lindstrom and Luis Fernandez turn a rug showroom into a groovy destination for unwinding

“West Adams never really took off after Covid, and it was a challenge to get clients there—even though it wasn’t that far,” says Erik Lindstrom of his former L.A. showroom space that he recently relocated to the burgeoning Hollywood Design District. “After Pucci, Apparatus, Carpenters Workshop and others moved to the area, I thought, ‘those are my people!’ and wanted to surround myself with other like- minded brands, and showrooms/products I was inspired by.”

Formerly an art gallery, the 6,000-square-foot space was flooded with natural light but felt empty and expansive. Luckily his vivid, hypnotic designs are boisterous enough to fill the space, but Lindstrom knew he needed a designer’s perspective to carve out more intimate areas. He turned to beloved L.A. interior and architectural designer Luis Fernandez to embrace the assignment. “We connected immediately over architectural theory, materiality, color and a shared appreciation for 1970s-era furnishings,” says Lindstrom.

“From the moment Erik called me, and I saw his New York showroom, I knew exactly what direction to take,” Fernandez recalls. “We both agreed immediately that this needed to feel like something different—not a typical showroom, but more of a gallery with a residential warmth. The idea was to display rugs the way they’re meant to be appreciated in a home: amongst art, furniture and collectibles.”

Most showrooms feature piles of rugs, a few desks and other necessities, but not this one. Designers can sift through wall-hung samples in the library, chill in the moody lounge or vibe out in the listening room. “The space reads more like a luxury residence than a traditional rug showroom—an immersive, fully realized environment that demonstrates how rugs live within a home,” he proclaims. “If I had to choose a favorite, it would be the listening room. It’s a cozy sanctuary where a wall-to-wall silk rug is enveloped by velvet-lined walls and a mirrored ceiling. The atmosphere invites conversation and a sense of retreat—encouraging you to slow down, step away from the outside world and linger, if only to flip the record or refresh a glass of champagne.”
