Save the Date: Sébastien Pochan at Harmon Guest House
Author:Lindsey ShookIn celebration of next week’s Design Healdsburg opening, Harmon Guest House is debuting a new installation of abstract wood sculptures by local winemaker-turned-sculptor Sébastien Pochan, on Thursday, October 1.
This installation at the beloved hotel—which is known locally for their rotating local-artist exhibit program—demonstrates Harmon Guest House’ ongoing commitment to showcasing Sonoma County artists since its 2018 opening, having featured past creators like Jake Messing and Alice Sutro across its guestrooms and common spaces.
Pochan has been producing wine for over three decades and is a self-taught artist and raised across France, Africa and Tahiti. He hand-crafts large unfinished, wax-only pieces from salvaged local wood that allow the imperfect, natural grain and shape to guide each work—an approach he likens to winemaking. His sculptures have shown at Gallery Lulo, Carter & Co., Themes+Projects Gallery, and several art fairs with K+Y Gallery.
On Saturday, October 3, the hotel and Gallery Lulo are set to host a ticketed evening with Pochan featuring an artist introduction, a guided exhibit walkthrough and an outdoor discussion about his dual crafts of wine and wood, followed by a wine reception. All proceeds will support Design Bay Area’s production of Design Healdsburg. The eco-friendly hotel will also serve as the central hub for the busy weekend of programming.
