Last Minute Mother’s Day Shopping with Rich Pedine

Author:

I am a well-known mama’s boy.  At design events, it’s not uncommon for an industry colleague to say something along the lines of “it’s so cute how much you love your mom.”  It always means a lot and proves that people are looking at my Instagram posts and not liking them.

I’ve been in California for almost 16 years now, a full day of planes, trains and automobiles away from my mom in northwestern Pennsylvania, but we remain very close.  In fact, she was able to visit us in Palm Springs in February before the world turned upside down.  A few of my gift ideas are inspired by our most recent visit – we took Mom to all of our favorite local businesses here in the desert.  I hope you find something that will make the mom in your life feel special this weekend!

-My mom enjoys a day in the sun at the pool or on a boat as much as I do.  I know she will love this Tassle Fringe cover-up from our favorite gift store in downtown Palm Springs, Peepa’s.  The colorful accents are perfect for summer.

-And since I’m not known for subtlety, I am sending her the Greetings from Palm Spring puzzle from Peepa’s to remind her and dad to come back for another vacation soon!

-Speaking of a relaxing day in the sun, my Mom loves getting lost in a captivating summer read.  This year, she’s getting my friend Steven Rowley’s latest novel, The Editor.  Can’t go wrong with Jackie O and moms, right?

-Mom and Dad have been keeping busy with a kitchen refresh during quarantine, so I chose the Pineapple Black doormat by my client Erin Gates for Momeni – because the makeover starts right at the door!

-A friend recently told me about this super useful fanny pack by Kibou (actually the world’s smallest diaper bag!), and I know Mom will find it useful when walking in the woods, kayaking or golfing this summer.  I also love that there’s a pouch specifically designed to hold a few disinfecting wipes.

-My love of beagles is another family trait, and my parent’s old girl Maddison deserves a Mother’s Day treat too! I picked up this mid-century modern house dog toy from local pet store Cold Nose Warm Hearts.  Every house must have a dog and vice versa.

-Another thing I got from my mama is dry skin.  Thanks Mom!  Therefore we are always giving each other lotions and creams for our hands, and we both love the clean products from Beautycounter.

-I always love to send Mom flowers or a plant for special occasions.  I get my “plant lady” streak from her!  This year, I picked a succulent mix from Olive & Cocoa, which will look perfect in the updated kitchen!

Lastly, I want to note that my Mom has been a nurse for more than 40 years, so my family will continue to stay home as much as possible to flatten the curve on the spread of COVID-19.  I hope you will do the same to honor all healthcare workers, first responders and all of our essential workers.  For more information, read here about how you can support nurses.  Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and all the moms in my life.  You are loved! – Rich Pedine of RPPR
